Paintball Camp Auction
My local field (Hoppers, Savannah GA) hosts a summer camp every year. They bring kids in for the week and teach them how to play, tech guns and learn skills to help them continue in the sport. This year they did an auction to help raise scholarships for kids who can't afford to pay for camp. Its $230 for each kid sponsored and they had some stuff to auction off in order to help fund it. The first item up for sale was a clear EVS mask. They had 3 of them they were auctioning off. I happened to walk up just it was starting and the field owner saw me and asked if I wanted to bid. I started off with $25. The mask retails for $130. It was slowly going up and was around $50 when I jumped the bid to $130. I won it.
Let's take a minute to understand who I am as a person. I like to do things and not have people know I did it. I try to be humble as possible. Doing this site and talking about what I have done isn't something I'm yet completely comfortable with. So bidding out loud was a little embarrassing to me. But I knew it was for a good cause so I did it.
That being said, I won the bid and walked up to the stage to get my mask. I quietly leaned over to the owner and said "hey can you give this to one of the kids at the camp?". He was very happy about that. So happy in fact, that he announced to the crowd what I did. I'm sure I turned 3 shades of red! There were other items auctioned off. I decided I wanted to get one more mask for $100 to donate a total of $230 for the kids to sponsor one kid. As the bidding for the last EVS mask went on there were 2 of us bidding. We were at $90 and I was happy I was going to get it for the $100 I had hoped. It went to me for $110. Still a good thing and again I donated the mask for the kids to get at camp. All in I'm not sure of the total raised but I know at least 3-4 kids will be able to go for free.
UPDATE 7/6/24: They had camp and it was a sucess. But one of the kids left the mask at the field. They weren't sure if he realized the mask was his to keep. But the other kid took his and loved it.
